Obituary of Charles Albert Appel
Charles Albert Appel, age 87, Town of Saratoga, passed away Monday, November 7, 2016 at his residence.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, November 12, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in the Town of Saratoga. Rev. Paul Tullberg will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at the church on Saturday. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Charles was born April 3, 1929 in the Town of Sigel to Albert and Minnie (Bautz) Appel. He married Arzella Polansky on June 26, 1954 in the Town of Sigel. They were blessed with 52 years of marriage and two children. Arzella preceded him in death on November 5, 2006.
He served his country in the United States Army and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of American Legion Post 9 in Wisconsin Rapids.
Charles worked at Consolidated Papers Inc. in the Wisconsin Rapids Division for 44 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a very active member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he held several offices. He also spent many years serving as the church groundskeeper. Charles was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was also a great gardener. In recent years he enjoyed watching NASCAR. He was also a fan of the Green Bay Packers and New York Yankees.
Charles is survived by one son, Rodney Appel of Plover; one daughter, Sharon (Edward) Bachinski of Stevens Point; five grandchildren: Michael (Shandra) Bachinski of Wisconsin Rapids, Stephen (Stacey) Bachinski of Eau Claire, Lisa Bachinski of Stevens Point, Michelle (Robert) Jacobson of Pine River, and Melissa (John) Epprecht of Oshkosh; three great-grandchildren: Ari Bachinski-Billings, Tristan Jacobson, and Mackenzie Epprecht (and two more on the way-one due in December and one in May); one sister, Joan Fles of New York; one brother, David Appel of Stevens Point; in-laws: Adeline (Floyd) Scheunemann of Vesper, Lois Smith of Stoughton, and Elaine Polansky of Rome; many nieces and nephews; and his loyal dog, Sasha. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Arzella, granddaughter, Sarah, and three sisters: Lucille Bublitz, Elizabeth Brinkman, and Helen Bushmaker.
Memorials may be designated to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and School.
