David was born March 30, 1956, in Stevens Point, WI, to Robert and Charlotte (Okoneski) Hay.
David was a devoted servant of Jehovah. He really enjoyed sharing his faith in Jehovah with those he would visit in the ministry, even doing so during his last few weeks when he was extremely weak. His faith in Jehovah and hope of a resurrection on paradise earth brought him great peace. He often spoke about wanting his entire family to build houses next to each other so we could all be serving Jehovah together in Paradise.
David was a hard worker. He worked hard his whole life, often working more than one job at a time to make ends meet. He enjoyed being a handy man. He was a “Dave” of all trades. We often said,”If Grandpa can’t fix it, no one can.” He enjoyed working in industrial refrigeration and worked as a maintenance manager for many years. During his last few years he enjoyed working for Omega Industries and retired from there in October of 2019. He thought of many who worked there as his own family.
David loved his children immensely. He was very proud of them and their families. He enjoyed spending time with them whenever he could. His grandchildren affectionately referred to him as “Grandpa Dave”. He had a love for music and enjoyed singing songs with his family while telling them the stories behind the songs. Some of the fondest memories of his children include just sitting, listening to music, and enjoying each other’s company.
David was thrilled to be part of the West Sioux City Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses for the last few years. He considered the congregation there to be among the best friends of his life. It was his wishes that even though he moved to Wisconsin to be with his children in what ended up to be the last few months of life, that his memorial be held there among his new home congregation.
David was a kind-hearted, gentle man. He would give anyone in need the shirt off his back. It was truly an honor to be his family and/or friend.
He is survived by his children: Nicole (Shane) Rhoads and their children: Isaac, Brianna, Jesse, Aliyah, Jaxen, and Gwen; Jeffrey (Jennifer) Hay and their children: Ezriah, Michayla, Katelyn, Karli, and Olivia; Michael (Anna) Hay and their children: Cullen, Asher, Harmony, Bentley, and Hendrix; and Jessica (David) Tripp and their children: Samuel, Jack, and Taylor; he is further survived by his mother, Charlotte and his siblings: Wayne, Nancy, and Sandy. David is preceded in death by his father, Robert.
