Obituary of Devon "Dietz" Saeger

Devon L. “Dietz” Saeger, 83, of Wisconsin Rapids, went to be with his Heavenly Father on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Services for Dietz Saeger will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. Jonathan Petzold will officiate. Inurnment, with full military honors conducted by VFW Post 2534 – Wisconsin Rapids, will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery. Visitations will be held on Friday, January 11, 2019 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. and Saturday, January 12, 2019 from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service, all at Immanuel Lutheran Church.  Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is deeply honored to be serving the Saeger Family at this most difficult time. Dietz was born November 20, 1935 in the town of Grant, WI to Louis and Ellen (Anderson) Saeger.  He honorably served his country in the United States Army for 3 years, with 17 months in Korea. Dietz married the love of his life, Shirley Knuth, on June 30, 1956 at Immanuel Lutheran Church.  They were blessed with 62 years of wonderful married life together.  Dietz was employed at NEPCO for 42 years as a pipefitter.

Dietz was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served as Chairman of the Property Committee, usher, member of the choir, and ran the roller-skating program for several years. He sang with the Barber Shoppers and served on the Grand Rapids Fire Department for 23 years.  Dietz built a hobby farm in Saratoga.  He was an avid golfer, Packers fan, and Brewers fan.  Dietz and Shirley enjoyed wintering in McAllen, TX for many years. He is loved and will be deeply missed.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley; his children: Kirk (Tracy) Saeger, Colleen (Curt) Ruesch, and Dawn (Mark) Rusch; his grandchildren: Ben, Alexis, Kassie, Matt, Dustin, Jake, Tyler, and Josh; his great-grandchildren: Ari, Ava, Aubrey, Cam, Makenna, Adalee, Noah, Alyla, Leo, and Rennae; his sisters: Char (Ken) Milkey and Pam (Phil) Parker; his sisters-in-law: Mae Knuth, Barb Matsumoto, and Joyce (Bill) Kauth; he is further survived by many extended relatives and friends.  In addition to his parents, Dietz is preceded in death by his son, Jere Saeger; his father and mother-in-law, Leonard and Clara Knuth; his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Don Milkey; and his brothers-in-law: Jerry Knuth and Gary Knuth.

“With heavy hearts we watched you go, our tears fell hard like rain.  Your time came way too soon for us, but no struggles now, no pain. God called out to you “Come walk with Me, your breathe will come with ease. You can walk steady and strong again My son, come join Me, won’t you please?” So off you went arms open wide to join His heavenly arrays. But your memory lives on here in our hearts, we love you – now and always.
