Obituary of Robert Lee Monk
Robert L. Monk, age 79, of Plover, passed away on Monday, August 6, 2018, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
Services will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 11, 2018, at Divine Word Evangelical Lutheran Church in Plover. Pastor Scott Wolfram will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Friday, August 10, 2018, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids and again on Saturday, August 11, 2018, from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service at Divine Word. Robert was born September 12, 1938, in the Town of Grant in Portage County, to John and Ruth (Clendenning) Monk. He graduated from Lincoln High School as a member of the Class of 1959. Robert married the love of his life, Phyllis Brandt, on September 23, 1961.
He worked for the Portage County Highway Department for many years. Robert enjoyed creating items out of wood for his family. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, watching birds and other wildlife. Robert had a sense of humor that drew people to him. He was a kid at heart and loved to play practical jokes. Robert loved going to country music concerts. He cherished spending time with his grandkids. Robert valued the family summer camping vacations. He is loved and will be deeply missed.
Robert is survived by his wife of 56 years, Phyllis; children: Roger Monk, Michele (Jesse) Hernandez, Christine (Andy) Wherritt, Michael (Trisha Lowery) Monk, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Monk, and Kevin (Tracy) Monk; grandchildren: Kristi Lynn (Cody) Walmsley, Benjamin Wherritt, Amanda (Jessi Lordson) Wherritt, Justin Monk, John Monk, Adelynn Monk, Ellamae Monk, and Leo Monk,; a great-grandson, Deacon Lupas; siblings: Shirley Herrin, Dorothy (Ken) Lesem, Delilah (Ronald) Koch, and Linda Monk; he is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. In addition to his parents, Robert is preceded in death by a brother, Charles Monk; a sister, Sandra Monk; and a brother-in-law, Willard Herrin.
