Obituary of Cheryl Lynn Holberg
Cheryl Lynn Holberg, 55, of Wisconsin Rapids, died unexpectedly at her residence on Tuesday, February 27, 2018.
Cheryl was born August 29, 1962 in Wisconsin Rapids to Rodney and Gwen (Morey) Mitchell. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1980 and from Fox Valley Technical College with a dental assistant degree. Cheryl was introduced to Joel Holberg of Wisconsin Rapids by a mutual friend. The two hit it off right away and on May 15, 1982, they were married at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids.
Cheryl was employed as a dental assistant for Dr. Casey John in Pittsville for many years and most recently did seasonal work with Sue Winch at Countryside Landscaping.
Cheryl was a very talented woman with a strong artistic sense. She could look at something and see it for what it could become, not necessarily for what it was. She had a passion for taking old things and making them new. Cheryl did a lot of work restoring her home; refinishing floors, tearing out the old chimney, painting, and extensive landscaping. After being introduced to EBAY and Craigslist, she developed a passion for finding just the right items to make her home remodeling project complete. She also enjoyed crafting with and creating floral arrangements, something she spent a lot of time doing in her home studio. She was gifted with words and wrote a lot of poetry for family and friends.
Cheryl treasured time with her family. While her family was growing up, much of that time was spent at the farm “up north” deer hunting, picking apples and cutting wood with the rest of the “Mitchell Gang”. In more recent years, it was hosting family get-togethers and Fourth of July Parties at her home that she loved so much. The family time she treasured most, however, was the time she spent with her grandchildren. Adventures with “Yamma” included long walks in the field, building forts and treehouses, and playing hide and go seek with four wheelers and golf carts.
She was a longtime member of the Wisconsin Rapids Lioness Club.
Cheryl is survived by her husband, Joel; two daughters: Angie (Ryan) Overholt, Sherwood, WI, and their children, Nora and Mason, and Emily (Ian) Babcock, Neenah, WI, and their children, Kale and Cameron; one brother, John Mitchell (Chrissy Van Ert), Wisconsin Rapids; two sisters: Dawn Mitchell (Chuck Stebbins), Nekoosa, and Jean (Butch) Wirtz, Wisconsin Rapids; brothers-in-law: Gerry (Cindy) Holberg, Jim (Sue) Holberg, and Jon (Kim) Holberg, all of Wisconsin Rapids, Jeff (Carolyn) Holberg, Moorcroft, WY, and Jim Schinke, Sayner, WI; sisters-in-law: Julie (Al) Bunt, Wisconsin Rapids, and Jean (Kelly) Fraser, Rothschild, WI; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, sister Sandy Schinke and infant sister Joni.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial visitation from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. Rev. David Bruener will officiate. Immediately following the service there will be a luncheon and Life Celebration gathering in honor of Cheryl at the Wisconsin Rapids Lions Club. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family.
The family would like to thank the emergency response crews from Vesper, Pittsville, Nekoosa, and Wisconsin Rapids and the Wood County Sherriff’s Department for their rapid response, care and respect for Cheryl.
