Obituary of Richard Larson

Richard A. Larson, age 71, of Iola, WI passed away Monday, January 29, 2018 at Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

Rich was born April 17, 1946 in Madison, WI to Stanley and Eunice (Edgington) Larson.  He graduated from Oregon High School in Oregon, WI and attended UW Madison.  Rich served his country in the United States Army from 1965-1967 and was stationed in Georgia.

He married Trudy Schoenick on November 9, 1974 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner, WI.  They were blessed with 43 years of marriage and two children, Randy and Lisa.

Rich worked in maintenance for the CL Swanson Vending Company and retired in 2008.

Rich was an avid sports fan and loved to watch the Packers, Brewers and Badgers.  He was a longtime Badger hockey season ticket holder.  Rich was also an avid NASCAR fan, his favorite driver being Matt Kenseth.  In his younger years, Rich enjoyed being outdoors hunting, biking, canoeing, camping, snowmobiling, and drag racing his 1967 Camaro.  As his children were growing up, he took great interest in their activities which were hockey and raising Arabian horses.  He served as president of the hockey association and was instrumental in getting the hockey rink built in McFarland, WI where he loved to drive the Zamboni.  Rich had a great love for animals and had several special dogs and cats over the years.

Rich is survived by his wife, Trudy; one son, Randy Larson of Milton, WI; one daughter, Lisa (Shawn) Hauge of Darlington, WI and their children: Shayleigh and William; brother, Stanley (Toy) Larson Jr. of Thailand; and sisters: Annette Larson of Madison, Mona (Mike) Van Erdwyk of South Dakota, and Karen (Scott) Larson of Rockford, IL; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and step-mother, Mary.

Family and friends are invited to Rich’s Life Celebration from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home, 2201 Chestnut Street, Wisconsin Rapids, followed by a memorial service at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3, 2018.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.taylorfuneralhome.net.
