Obituary of Rose M. Schimke

Rose M. Schimke, age 78, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning, January 21, 2018 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.

Rose was born June 6, 1939 in Watertown, WI to Earl and Gertrude (Lau) Soldner.  She attended UW Whitewater and graduated with a degree in business.  Rose worked as a business teacher until her marriage to Jerry Schimke on June 11, 1966 in Reeseville, WI.  Rose and Jerry were blessed with 51 years of marriage.

While her children were little, Rose focused her time and attention on the important task of being a full-time mother and homemaker.   When the children were grown, she returned to teaching as a substitute teacher at area schools.

Rose was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner where she served on the altar guild.  She enjoyed crafting and doing needlework and keeping track of family genealogy.  Rose was also a great lover of flowers and liked to tend to her flower gardens and house plants.

Rose is survived by her loving husband, Jerry; three sons: Timothy (Jill) Schimke, Stewartville, MN, Mark Schimke, Madison, WI, and Matthew (Carol) Schimke, Wind Lake, WI; five grandchildren: Lily, Benjamin, Daniel, Noah and Austin; one sister, Nancy (Lloyd) Thompson, Waterloo, WI; and brother-in-law, Harlan Hahn, Hustisford, WI.  She is preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Patricia Hahn.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner.  Rev. Kevin Ader will officiate.  Burial will be at St. John Lutheran Parish Cemetery in the Town of Grant.  Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the church.  Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is honored be serving the family.  Online condolences may be expressed at www.taylorfuneralhome.net.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Bethesda Lutheran Communities or Mayo Clinic Cancer Research.
