Obituary of LaVerne Richard Wunrow

LaVerne Richard Wunrow, age 78, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at his home.

Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Dr. Carlton Andersen will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services at the church on Saturday.  Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family.

LaVerne was born on October 17, 1938 in Wisconsin Rapids to Fred and Flossie (Brody) Wunrow.

LaVerne worked as a carpenter for many years and took great pride in his work, helping build several buildings in town and throughout the area.  On Sundays, he would pack everyone in the car and take them on a Sunday drive and show them all the houses he worked on.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army National Guard for three years.

LaVerne liked the holidays because they provided an opportunity to gather together with friends and family. He was known for his ability to tell a good joke and make people laugh.  In his younger years, LaVerne enjoyed car racing, had a love for large cars and station wagons, and was an avid hunter. He was also an avid fisherman and liked to fish on the Yellow River.  LaVerne loved country music.  He followed the band Southbound and always dreamed of going to the Grand Ole Opry.  He enjoyed taking his family on vacations “Out West” to South Dakota and Wyoming and “Up North” to a cabin in Minocqua.

LaVerne is survived by his four children: Tracy (Ralph) Coates of Hixton, WI, Dale (Rhonda) Wunrow of Marshfield, WI, Gene Wunrow and Terry Wunrow both of Wisconsin Rapids; and two grandchildren: Brittany and Colton Wunrow. He is also survived by his two special dogs, Sonic and Babes.  He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Delbert Wunrow and step-father Alvin Pischer.
