Obituary of Helen M. Zawatzke

Helen M. Zawatzke, age 95, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, passed away Wednesday, September 20, 2017, at Edgewater Haven in Port Edwards.

There will be two funeral services for Helen; one will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, September 25, 2017, at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids with a visitation from 11:00 A.M. until time of services on Monday. The other service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Tuesday, September 26, 2017, at Purath-Strand Funeral Home in Racine, WI, with a visitation from 11:00 A.M. until time of services on Tuesday. Burial will take place in Holy Cross Cemetery in Caledonia, WI.

Helen was born on June 25, 1922, in Beloit, WI, to Dominic and Marcella (Domeika) Yasaitis. She married Walter Zawatzke on January 20, 1943, at St. Thomas The Apostle Church in Beloit, WI. He passed away in 1992.

Helen’s passion was gardening. She took great pride in her gardens and loved birds of all kind; she even nursed sick ones back to health. Helen kept many diaries and was a great writer. She wrote about all events to record for her family and future generations to appreciate. Helen was a devout Catholic woman; her patron Saint was St. Therese of The Little Flower. She was very devoted to the Blessed Mother and prayed the Rosary daily.

Helen is survived by her daughters: Terri Gregory, Marcella (Robert) Orton and Susanne (Robert Lockman Jr.) Stuckey; son: Richard Zawatzke; sister: Marcella Leeman; grandchildren: John Gregory, Stephanie O’Toole, Rebecca Skrobiak, Carrisa Stuckey, Rick Zawatzke, Colton Stuckey, and Nicolas Stuckey; great-grandchildren: Amanda Golemba, Jonathon Golemba, Kaitlyn (Michael) Polfus, Jessika Zawatzke, Christopher DuPont; and great, great-grandchild: Scarlet. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Walter, son, Stephen Zawatzke, sister, Marian Butters, and brothers, John Yasaitis and Joseph Yasaitis.
