Obituary of Charles "Charlie" Stolp Jr.

Charles “Charlie” Stolp Jr., age 89, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, May 18, 2017 surrounded by his family following a courageous battle with bladder cancer.

Memorial services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, May 24 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids.  Rev. John Grohs and Rev. Jonathan Petzold will officiate.  Visitation will be from 9:30 A.M. until the time of services on Wednesday at the church.  Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Charlie was born September 29, 1927 in Biron, WI to Charles and Irma (Fischer) Stolp.  He attended Biron Grade School and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945.  He served in the United States Navy from 1945-1947.  On September 11, 1954, he was united in marriage to Nancy Ashenberg at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids.  They were blessed with 63 years of marriage and welcomed the birth of four children.

He was employed at Consolidated Papers Inc. in the Biron Division as a scheduling and inventory supervisor for 41 years, retiring in 1985.  He kept in close contact with many of his friends from work as a member of the “Consolidated Club”.

Charlie was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing.  Family time was extremely important to him. He always enjoyed family vacations, camping excursions and parties. Charlie loved polka music and watching the Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune. He would call in to WFHR every Saturday morning to request songs he wanted played for Nancy.  In earlier years, Charlie and Nancy enjoyed dancing at area venues.  Charlie was well liked and known for his line of BS and sharing a good story or two, especially at the Tuesday morning “Old Farts” breakfast.  He will be remembered for his meticulous lawn and garage where everything had its place.

Charlie is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; four children: Larry (Deb) Stolp of Casper, Wyoming, Terri (Paul) Miller and Debra Stolp of Wisconsin Rapids, and Michael (Myrna) Stolp of Bailey, Colorado; granddaughter, Raquel Ann “Rocky” (fiancé Stephen Sanger) of Wisconsin Rapids; and two very special friends: Marlene Freedlund and David Buckman of Wisconsin Rapids.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Irma; brother, Harold; and sister, Dorothy.

Charlie’s family would like to thank the staff of Ministry Home Care Hospice for the excellent care he received.

Memorials may be designated to the American Cancer Society.
