Obituary of Barbara A. Schaub
Barbara A. (Johnson) Schaub, age 70, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Friday, May 5, 2017 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids.
Traditional Native American funeral services will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Monday, May 8 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Jim Greendeer and Rev. Cheryl Davis will officiate. Burial will be at White Cemetery in the Town of Seneca. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Monday at the funeral home.
Barbara was born November 14, 1946 in Wisconsin Rapids to Frank and Ethel (Wallace) Johnson. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1964 and attended cosmetology school in Milwaukee. She married Richard Bartley on November 17, 1966 in Chicago. They were married for 21 years. Although the marriage ended in divorce, they remained friends throughout the years.
She worked as a cosmetologist at Fashion Beauty Salon in Wisconsin Rapids and other salons throughout the area. After her career as a beautician, she enjoyed working with children and elders in the community.
Barbara loved spending time with her family. The holidays were very important to her, especially hosting Thanksgiving dinner at her house. She also enjoyed to travel and took many trips. A couple of her favorite locations included Sturgis, South Dakota and Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Through the years she liked country music, riding snowmobiles, and wearing leather and Harley gear while cruising on a motorcycle. In her spare time, she could also be found watching “her shows,” having her nails manicured, or shopping, especially for shoes. Barbara was fond of bald eagles, and had many impressive pictures, figurines, and various other items throughout her home. Other items she loved to collect included family photos, shot glasses, and Native American mementoes.
Barbara is survived by her best friend, Richard Bartley; children: Cheryl Hamm and Richard (LauraLee) Bartley Jr.; grandchildren: Ashlie (Leo) Bondarenko, Kyle Grube, and Peyton Hamm; great-grandson, William Bondarenko; brothers: Frank (Lois) Johnson Jr., Wallace (Jennifer) Johnson, and Robert Johnson; she is further survived by her God child, Pamela Smith, many nieces and nephews; and her special grand dog, Bart. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Kenneth; and sisters: Helen, Lucille, Caroline, Emily, and Maxine.
