She graduated from Marshfield High School where she played the clarinet in the school band. Later she graduated from VTAE with a degree in accounting. She married Raymond Dix on June 26, 1948 in Marshfield, WI. They were blessed with 68 wonderful years of marriage until his passing on October 6, 2016. Sarah was a very independent and caring person and a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Spending time with family was very important to her and she enjoyed spending some of her family time fishing on the Wolf River and Willow Flowage, camping at CERA Park, traveling the country in their Winnebago, and deer hunting on the 40 acres of land she and Ray owned. She was very proud that she and Ray harvested wood from that same 40 acres to make their own home furniture, cabinetry, and together they built many other homes in the area. Sarah was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed sewing, quilting, tending to her large vegetable garden, and canning. She was known for her famous pickles and homemade potato salad. Sarah was a very talented piano player and loved playing for family. She liked watching the Bucks and Brewers, doing word search puzzles, and playing Scrabble. Sarah had a soft spot for animals and has taken in and cared for many strays over the years. She would feed any wildlife that would venture into her yard. Sarah is survived by her two children: Ray (Joanne) Dix Jr. of Bancroft; Sandy (Gary) Johnson of Wisconsin Rapids; three grandchildren: Anna Dix of Almond, Ray J. Dix (significant other Diana and her daughter Abby) of Bancroft, Marissa Johnson (Matt Petroske) of Wisconsin Rapids; three great-grandchildren: Jorja Rae Dix, Kassie Johnson and Elijah Johnson; one sister, Edna (Robert) Coaty, of Rockford, IL; and many nieces and nephews. She will be missed by her dog, Reggie and granddog, Karma. She is preceded in death by her loving husband Ray; parents: John and Lennie; sister, Katie (L.D.) Robinson; mother and father-in-law: Edward and Josephine; two sisters-in-law; and four brothers-in-law. The family would like to thank the staff at Aspirus Wausau Hospital Palliative Care and United Emergency Medical Response in Wisconsin Rapids for their kindness and compassionate care.
