Obituary of Robert R. Thompson

Robert R. Thompson, age 86, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Monday, February 13, 2017 at his residence. Memorial services will be at 1:00 P.M. on Friday, February 17, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Jonathan Petzold will officiate. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until the time of services on Friday at the church. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is assisting the family. Bob was born February 14, 1930 in Wild Rose, WI to Anton and Hazel (Etheridge) Thompson. He married Donna Lee Falkenberg on October 16, 1958 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953-1957 and was stationed in Austria. Bob was the executive director of the Wisconsin Rapids Housing Authority for 24 years, retiring in December 1997. In earlier years, he was employed by Consolidated Papers Inc. as a computer operator. Bob was a very caring and compassionate person and loved spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed walking around Lake Wazeecha, golfing, and going out to eat with friends and family. He also liked to camp, was into electronics and enjoyed doing Sudoku puzzles. Bob and Donna enjoyed traveling and wintering in Gulf Shores, Alabama where Bob served on the Wisconsin Snowbirds Club. Bob also served on the Wisconsin Rapids Board of Ethics and Housing Authority Board. Bob is survived by his wife, Donna; son, Paul Thompson, Seattle, WA; daughter, Christa Thompson, Wisconsin Rapids; nieces and nephews: Jim (Chris) Thompson, Hancock, WI, Dennis Thompson, Wild Rose, WI, Terry Thompson, Hancock, WI, Donna Schultz, Baraboo, WI, Dixie Burnard, Stoughton, WI, Robin Whiteley, Malott, WA, Carol (John) Jenson, Rockford, IL,Sharon Gronah, Florida and Delmer Thompson. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers: Ky (Eva) Thompson, Stub (Verna) Thompson, Delmer Thompson, Neil (Helen) Thompson, and Keith (Gretchen) Thompson.
