Obituary of Allen H. Kumm
Allen H. Kumm, age 87, of Wisconsin Rapids (Town of Seneca), passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at his residence.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Timothy Wenger will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 – 8:00 P.M. on Friday at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids and from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at the church.
Allen was born May 23, 1929 in the Town of Hiles, Wood County, WI to Albert and Ula (Stetler) Kumm. He was raised on various farms in the rural Pittsville area and graduated from Pittsville High School. On September 1, 1952 Allen was united in marriage to Violette Koch at Bethany Lutheran Church in the Town of Sigel, Wood County, WI. They were blessed with 57 years of marriage and five children.
Allen worked at Consolidated Papers Inc. for 44 years and retired as a lab technician.
Allen volunteered as a hunter safety instructor for over 40 years and impacted the lives of over 11,000 students during that time. He also served as a certified rifle and pistol instructor and self-defense instructor for the NRA for 8 years and as a snowmobile safety instructor for 25 years. He was active with the Wood County Rescue squad for 11 years and taught rescue techniques to local fire and police personnel. He also worked as a part time Wood County Deputy for 7 years and served as a supervisor on the Wood County board for 12 years.
Allen was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles since 1947 and a longtime member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks for many years, serving on the board of trustees for 10 years. He was a faithful member of St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids.
Allen enjoyed being outdoors deer hunting and going on annual fishing trips with his sons on Lake Michigan. He was a sports fan and followed the Brewers, Packers, Badgers, and Pittsville High School basketball. He was the family genealogist and coordinated the Pittsville “Early Years” class reunions.
Allen is survived by four children: Randall (Debra) Kumm, Wisconsin Rapids, Gary (Sue) Kumm, Neenah, Mary (Daniel) Nimtz, Aurora, CO, and Sandra (Larry) Truchinski, Wisconsin Rapids; grandchildren: Jeremiah Kumm, Lucas (Jessica) Kumm, Jennifer (Lee) Reibold, Amy Ciotola, Elizabeth (David) Shoemaker, Michael Nimtz, and step-granddaughter, Cherity (David) Ysquierdo; great-grandchildren: Colton Kumm, Kyle Shoemaker, Malia Shoemaker, Mackenzie Shoemaker, step-great-grandchildren: Cienna Young, Quiana Young, Izabella Ysquierdo, and David Ysquierdo; siblings: Audrey Derusseau, San Diego, CA, Irma Back, Jacksonville, FL, Floyd Kumm, Pittsville, Jerry Kumm, Nekoosa, Marlene (Lloyd) Young, Wisconsin Rapids, and Lynn Kumm, Florida; and special friend, Florence Grossbier. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Violette Kumm, son, David Kumm, three brothers: Ernest (Irma) Kumm, Elmer Kumm, and Myron Kumm; and two sisters: Margret Kumm and Verna Hoekstra.
