Obituary of Elmer Ley

Elmer John Ley, age 96, Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at Aspirus Riverview Hospital. Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Timothy Wenger will officiate. Entombment will take place at Forest Hill Mausoleum with military rites. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family. Online condolences may be expressed at www.taylorfuneral home.net. Elmer was born August 14, 1920 in Chili, Clark County, WI to Charles and Hilda (Schweiger) Ley. He married Jeanette Bloch on October 19, 1946 in Marshfield, WI. They were blessed with 59 years of marriage until her passing on April 22, 2006. Elmer loved movies. Any night of the week you could catch him watching a WWII or Western movie. He liked putting 1000 piece puzzles together and displayed several of them in his home. He collected several videos and Cd’s. He really enjoyed listening to country music, especially Johnny Cash. Elmer liked to eat out on Friday and Sunday nights at his favorite restaurant, Grace’s. Elmer was a proud veteran and served his country in the United States Air Force on a tailgate bomber B-17 during WWII. During his service time, he was stationed in Kimbolton, England for ten years. He went on the Never Forgotten Honor Flight to Washington, DC in 2011. Elmer is survived by his sister, Alice Lang of Eau Claire, WI; 3 nieces: Judy (Donald) Knoll, Chippewa Falls, WI, Gloria Warner of Eau Claire, WI, Sandra Lang of Sun Prairie, WI, and Mary LeMay of Wisconsin Rapids; and numerous other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jeanette, and sister Irene Englebretson. The family would like to thank the staff of The Waterford of Wisconsin Rapids and Aspirus Riverview Hospital for the wonderful care given to Elmer.
