Obituary of Lyle F. Smith

Lyle F. Smith, age 90, of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin passed away on Monday, January 2, 2017 at St. Claire’s Hospital in Weston. Lyle was born on June 6, 1926 in Waukesha, WI, the son of the late Fred and Mamie (Johnson) Smith. At the age of 18 he was recruited by the US Army and served in WWII from 1943 to 1946. He then served in the National Guard for 20 years. During that time he served in the Bay of Pigs. After leaving the service he worked as a pipe fitter for Nekoosa Edwards Paper Company. Lyle enjoyed time with his children and his hobbies of fishing and hunting. He is survived by 2 daughters: Linda Nelson of Niles, MI and Patti Oetken of Babcock, WI; son: Lyle (Pam) Smith of Elk River, MN; eight grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. There will be no public service or visitation. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is serving the family.
