Obituary of Walter Huf

Walter Huf, age 80 of Nekoosa peacefully passed from this life to be with Jesus on Tuesday, December 6th at the Atrium Post-Acute Care Center in Wisconsin Rapids. Services will be at 4:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 11th, 2016 at Herman- Taylor Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Fischer officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday from 2:00 P.M. until the time of services. Walter was born on January 5th, 1936 in Milwaukee to Walter and Marie (Bublitz) Huf. He graduated from Rufus King High School, Milwaukee in 1954. On September 9th, 1961 he was united in marriage to Carol Weiss in Milwaukee. Walter worked as a printing pressman for the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Milwaukee Publishers and Port Publications in Port Washington. Walter belonged to the Lake Area Christian Fellowship a mission of Bethlehem Church in Nekoosa. He was also a Stephen Minister for 16 years. Walter’s number one priority was his faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Walter served our country as a US Marine for 8 years. He joined the Marine Corps League in the 1990’s and served as the unit chaplain and state chaplain. While serving, Walter received the Marine Devil Dog Distinction and national chaplain of the Four Chaplain Awards. He was active in the Boy Scouts for over 20 years, serving as troop leader for 10 years and also as an advisor to the Explorer post. In the Boy Scouts he received the Boy Scout Order of The Arrow distinction as well as a 3 Bead Wood Badger. He attended the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Virginia twice and World Jamboree in Calgary, Canada. Walter and Carol loved to travel and visited all 50 states as well as Japan, Mexico and Canada. Together with family they visited Disney Land and Disney World over 150 times. Walter was a wonderful father and loving husband. He is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Mardell (Mike) Timken of Las Vegas, NV, son Walter A (Emily) Huf of Jackson, WI. grandchildren Sarah (Adam) Kreul of Dayton, OH, Christine Lamont (Fiance’ Dustin Babler) of Champaign, IL, Walter J. Huf of San Jose, CA, Emily (Tim) Shirley of NC, step grandchildren Cheyenne Varga and Dakota Varga, both of Jackson, WI and many nieces and nephews, sister in law Janice Lange of Vermont, sister in law Arlene Huf of Milwaukee. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Donald Huf. In Lieu of flowers donations may be made to the LWML (Lutheran Women’s Missionary League), American Heart Association, The American Cancer Society and the Boy Scouts of America. The family would like to send a special thank you to Atrium Post-Acute Care staff for all of the loving care bestowed upon their father and husband.
