Obituary of Irma H. Breese

Irma H. Breese, 94, Port Edwards, WI, passed away gracefully and peacefully on Sunday morning, November 20, 2016 at Atrium Care of Weston, Schofield, WI. Services will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 990 3rd Street, Port Edwards, preceded by visitation from 9:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. Pastor Dan Bohn will officiate. Burial will be at Port Edwards Municipal Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the church. Irma was born Halloween 1922 to Emma and David Nickel in Nekoosa, WI. On November 9, 1946, she married Russell Breese. Survivors include two children, Bill (Margo) Breese-Florida, Barb Breese-Wausau, WI; one sister, Ruth Pritchard-Neshkoro, WI; and granddaughter Kate (Brittany)-Florida. Nieces and nephews/grandnieces and grandnephews also survive in both the Breese and Nickel families. For about 30 years, Irma worked on Election Board in Port Edwards, knowing many people in town. She was active as Boy Scout leader for Bill and his troop and then as Girl Scout leader for Barb and girl classmates. The school saw Irma involved in PTA helping generate monies for new band uniforms, sports teams, and any other function available. Irma and Russ were charter members at Trinity Lutheran Church. Irma was secretary for 30 years for Ladies’ Aid. She also served on Altar Guild, and food preparation for church events. Irma purchased a candle for church in memory of Russ. Irma loved to sew, making all the curtains and drapes in their home, along with clothing for Barb and herself. She sewed Russ a tie, made quilts, sewed banners for church. She learned and played bridge (cards) with a group of women for lots of years and giggles. Neighbors were another joy, getting together for coffee, sitting outside in summer, or gathering for picnics. The thing Russ and Irma loved best were each other and their family and friends. The family thanks the staff at Riverview Hospital-Wisconsin Rapids, St. Joseph’s Hospital-Marshfield and for almost 5 years at Atrium of Weston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to your favorite charity, Veteran’s organization or place of worship.
