Obituary of Paul Robert Weimer
Paul Robert Weimer, age 75, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away on Thursday morning, November 17, 2016. He was born in Fond du Lac on September 22, 1941, son of Robert and Edith (Barthelmann) Weimer. He graduated from Goodrich High School in Fond du Lac and UW-Oshkosh and served in the Army National Guard. He married the late Patricia Friday from Oshkosh in 1961. He worked for the Oshkosh Police Department for 25 years, including serving as the Liaison Officer at West High School until his retirement. He married his loving wife Susan (Hartjes) Weimer from Wisconsin Rapids in 2000.
Paul’s biggest passion was baseball, including being a member of Club 13 and the Snitz Club, coaching Junior Babe Ruth, spending summers in concession stand and maintaining E.J. Schneider Field. He was a big fan of UW-O Baseball and enjoyed traveling to minor league baseball games around the country, as well as collecting sports cards and autographs.
Paul was very active in his communities, including volunteering for the Red Cross, serving on the Oshkosh City Council and Wood County Board of Supervisors. He was a member of the Wisconsin Rapids Elks Lodge #693 where he had served as a Trustee and was Elk of the Year in 2006 and 2016.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, wife Pat, son Timothy and brother Jerome. He will be greatly missed by his wife Sue Weimer, daughter Tracy (special friend Jeff Gruber) Weimer of Wild Rose, son Tom Weimer of Sheboygan, grandsons Briar Cummings, Tyler, Josh, Ben, and Nathan Weimer, stepsons Guy Cummings (special friend Fawn Gottschalk) of Wisconsin Rapids and Jason Cummings of Shorewood, brothers Dick (Pat) Weimer and Mike (Chris) Weimer, sisters Carol Schneider, Sharon (Tom) Bellmer all of Fond du Lac, and sister-in-laws Kathy Weimer of Fond Du Lac and Mary Anderson of Oshkosh.
Visitation will be held Friday November 25th 4:00 – 8:00 at Herman – Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. A memorial service will also be held there Saturday November 26th at 11:00, with visitation starting 10:00. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Wisconsin Rapids Elks Lodge #693 Scholarship Fund in memorial to Paul will be accepted.
