Obituary of Douglas Damrau

Douglas Lee Damrau, 46, of 2131 Cindy Court, Wisconsin Rapids, passed away peacefully following cardiac arrest on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at Riverview Medical Center in Wisconsin Rapids. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 29th at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. John Steiner will officiate. Interment will be at Forest Hill Mausoleum at a later date. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of services on Saturday at the church. Doug was born August 31, 1966 in Stevens Point to Wayne and Germaine ?Gerry? (Stuczynski) Damrau. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids in 1988 and began employment with Opportunity Development Center in Wisconsin Rapids in 1989. He worked for ODC until the time of his passing. Doug lived a very full life while being physically limited. He always had a bright smile and an open heart. Doug was an avid sports fan. He loved the Green Bay Packers and the Chicago Cubs. He made sure everyone knew he was the biggest Cubbies Fan! Doug also enjoyed spending time with his family at their lakeside cottage in Southern Illinois, cruising on the pontoon boat. Doug also traveled a lot with his family, visiting Lambeau Field, Wrigley Field, Churchill Downs, Fort Myers, Myrtle Beach and many other places. Doug is survived by his parents, Wayne and Germaine (Stuczynski) Damrau of Wisconsin Rapids; one brother, Dale (Jenny) Damrau of Wisconsin Rapids; two sisters: Doreen (Pat) McDonald of Wisconsin Rapids and Denise (Tim) Malone of Louisville, Kentucky; his nieces and nephews: Marissa and Adam Damrau, Mitchell (Maria Welch) and Matthew Halverson, Beau and Tyler Banz; and his very special great-niece, Ainsley Halverson; step nieces: Kennedy and Kaiden McDonald. He was also blessed to have his ?next-door? family: Ron, Linda, Julie, Dean, and Nikki Olds of Wisconsin Rapids. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Albert and Frieda Damrau and John and Gertrude Stuczynski. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center of Wisconsin Rapids is assisting the family. Memorials may be designated to Opportunity Development Center, 1191 Huntington Avenue, Wisconsin Rapids or St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 820 13th Street South, Wisconsin Rapids. A special thanks to ODC, Connections and everyone at the Evergreen Group Home for also being family to him and for all of their kindness, care and concern for Doug. And a thank you to the medical staff at Riverview for their care and support.
