Cousin Tom was the best cousin ever. We were both born in Milwaukee in 1942 and neither of our fathers had to serve in WWII. Tom lived upstairs from a grouchy old Mr Pagel and across the street from our Lutheran church on 18th and Locust. It was a big deal when Uncle Emil and Aunt Mildred moved out into the country into the old Town of Wauwatosa on West Congress Street. We gave them our old jungle gym set and visited the Krenz's often. Tom and I played in "the swamp" many wonderful hours. Both of us got real leather jackets and pump BB guns for Christmas in 1951 after Mom, Barbs and I had moved out to 78th and Ruby. I attended Tom and cousin Bill Kraus' Craig School then on 76th and Congress Street and spent many hours together building forts and learning to love girls in our 5th and 6th grade class. We all had new three speed bikes and could go anywhere we wanted to.
I missed not going to Custer High School with Tom and Bill and the sweet girls and boys from Craig grade school. We always shared family Holidays and weeks up at Grampa Neitlel's cottage on Big Silver Lake near Wautoma where we all learned to swim, fish and smoke cigerates. (Lucky Strike were the "boys" evil choice).
Tom was our "Best Man" at our wedding in 1965 (Marilyn Todd). Tom and Mary were the first to start a family and real full time work, rent an apartment, etc. of all the cousins. He was always very mature for his age and always had his eyes on advancement for his jobs and careers. He showed us all how to raise great kids and manifest strong loyalty to those we love, our church and the community.
I always wished that Tom and I had ended up living closer together as we would have had many projects and more great times, like the "Old Days". Someday we will have plenty of time to get caught up on "Cousin Time". in the Great Here After. Bless You Thomas Krenz.

I grew up looking a lot like Tom. I posted a picture from his tenth grade in the photo area. That was taken about 4 days before I was born. His mom and my mom were sisters who had grown up in the depression. Everything was used until it could not go on any longer. As Tom outgrew clothes, Tim would get them. After Tim, they were placed in boxes in their attic. Throughout my childhood I remember going over to Tom's attic and "shopping" for new clothes. The knees and elbows had patches and the colors were sometimes hard to tell. But I had clothes that still had "some" life. And yes, I did have a shirt like the one in the picture. Don't know if it is the same, but maybe.
Till we meet again, Tom.
