Obituary of Alvin Julius Buchholz
Alvin Julius Buchholz, age 99, of Port Edwards passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at his home in Port Edwards.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, January 9, 2016 at the Wisconsin Rapids Moravian Church. Rev. Mary Lou Plummer will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Alvin was born on December 16, 1916 in Port Edwards to Alfred and Cora (Vincenz) Buchholz. He graduated from John Edwards High School. Alvin served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1941 to 1945; he served at the 176th General Hospital in France during World War II. Alvin married Mildred Stake on June 1, 1946 in the Town of Sigel; she passed away on April 5, 1999.
Alvin was a beater operator for the Nekoosa Edwards Paper Company at the Port Edwards mill for 44 years until his retirement.
Alvin was a faithful member of the Wisconsin Rapids Moravian Church where he was in both the vocal and the trombone choir. Alvin was a talented woodworker who built his own home and enjoyed making furniture. Alvin liked the outdoors and gardening. He was a member of American Legion Post 9 and VFW Post 2534.
Alvin is survived by his children: James (Janet) Buchholz of Whitehall, WI, Thomas Buchholz of Wisconsin Rapids, Karen Buchholz of Port Edwards and John (Bonita) Buchholz of Wisconsin Rapids; grandchildren: Todd Buchholz, Eric Buchholz, Joshua Kehrberg, Richard (Ashley Morgan) Buchholz and Andrew Buchholz; great-grandchild Darren Buchholz and sister Leona Baldry of Brawley, CA.
He was preceded in death by his wife Mildred, infant daughter and brother Everett Buchholz.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Wisconsin Rapids Moravian Church.
