Obituary of Jere Gilbert Miller
Jere Gilbert Miller, age 65, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, January 18, 2016 at his residence.
Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, January 21, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. John Grohs will officiate. Burial will be at Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, January 20, 2016 from 4:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church.
Jere was born on April 20, 1950 in Wisconsin Rapids to Gilbert and Lorraine (Gellerman) Miller. Jere met the love of his life Joan Henke on the Immanuel Lutheran Church roller rink where he literally swept her off her feet. The couple was united in marriage on June 26, 1971 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. They were blessed with 44 years of marriage and the surprise of their lives, twin daughters. Jere was employed as a trimmer operator at Consolidated Papers Inc. for 32 years before his retirement.
Jere devoted himself to his family, they enjoyed doing things together; he made it clear that they were always number one in his heart. Jere was actively involved with the Wisconsin Rapids Jaycee's from 1973 until 1992; during that time he achieved Individual Development Vice President and had the opportunity to meet President Ronald Reagan. Jere was an avid Green Bay Packer and NASCAR fan; his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt. He collected Die-Cast cars and sports memorabilia. Jere liked to sell plaques, pennants and other sports collector items at various local flea markets and fairs in central Wisconsin as well as at The Trading Post in Wisconsin Rapids. He was a superb bowler and on October 16, 1990 he bowled a 299 game. He and his wife liked to travel to Indianapolis to watch the NASCAR qualifying races.
Jere is survived by his wife Joan, daughters: Melissa (Darin) Ringer and Marie Miller; grandchildren: Julie Miller, Austin Ringer, Kyle Ringer and Cole Ringer and his brother Allen (Sharon) Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert and Lorraine.
