Audrey, Jeff, Laurie, and Pete: I am very saddened and sorry for your loss. As one who spent countless days at your very welcoming home in the late 70's, just seeing Phil's picture brought back many fond memories of Cherry Bomb, laughter, and Phil with an ever present twinkle is his eye as if he knew something you didn't. Phil will be missed by many. RIP, Phil.

Tom, thanks so much for the nice post and jogging my memory as I completely did not remember that my dad had us do this in school. I do use the chant sometimes yet today to be silly.. Fond memory.

My condolences to the Greeneway family at this sad time.
Phil was my 6th grade teacher at Children's Choice School & his son, Jeff, was also in my class. There were some mornings when Phil thought we needed some "classroom calisthenics" to begin our day and get the blood flowing, so he would recite a poem, which went:
There was a Duke of York
Who had a thousand men
Who marched them up the hill
And marched them down again
And when they're up, they're up
And when they're down, they're down
But when they're half way up
They're neither up or down.
So when the word "up" was said, we all had to stand up. When he said "down" we had to sit back down. And yes, we stood half way up before standing & sitting at the end of the poem. Phil would recite this poem 2-3-4 times in a row, saying it faster & faster each time, which meant we had to stand & sit faster & faster. Once he was sure everyone was now fully awake, we got down to business in the classroom. A fun memory.
Rest in peace, Mr. Greeneway.

My sincere sympathies to your family. I will always remember Phil's friendly attitude. We shared a passion and many conversations around sports, coaching, and officiating. He especially taught me a lot regarding officiating. Rest in Peace, Phil.

Greeneway Family: Phil was my fishing buddy, our family friend, and an honorary "Grandpa Phil" to our boys as they grew up with their buddies Garret and Jake. He was full of fun, adventure, words of wisdom, and plenty of mischief. Phil was the guy that thought the dog needed a treat, that the kid needed a pat on the back, that the fire needed more wood, and that the mood needed to be lightened. On our fishing trips, Phil often fit in more with the kids than the other adults - and we all loved him for it. We will all miss this good, big-hearted man. --Paul & Deb Bursik

Audrey, Jeff, Laurie, and Pete, I am very sorry for your loss. Phil was the best. I remember when we were growing up, depending on the situation, he was just one of the guys, a coach, a mentor, or a guy that was there to lean on when we needed an adult ear with no fear of consequence. He will be missed greatly. You guys are in my thoughts and prayers.
