Obituary of Charlotte M. Houston

Charlotte M. Houston, age 96, of Wisconsin Rapids, died Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Atrium Post Acute Care of Wisconsin Rapids. Services will be 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 16, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Port Edwards. Rev. Dan Bohn will officiate. Burial will be in the Port Edwards Community Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Monday, February 15, 2016 at Herman Taylor Funeral Home and from 10:00 A.M. until time of service on Tuesday at the church. Charlotte was born August 13, 1919, in Wood County, Grand Rapids,WI to August and Clara (Matthews) Luedtke. She married Henry Houston on June 6, 1942, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adams. He died February 15, 1997. Charlotte graduated from Adams-Friendship High School and Wood County Teachers' College. She was a teacher at Arbutus School in rural Nekoosa and at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Wisconsin Rapids. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 63 years. She was active in Ladies Aid, Altar Guild, Classy Christians and Bible Classes. She was a member of Wisconsin Rapids Area Writers and Wood County Retired Teachers (Class of 1941). Charlotte enjoyed her church activities, dancing, traveling, visiting relatives, bowling, reading, writing stories and poems, making greeting cards on her computer and working on her family genealogy. She especially enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara (Edward) Kaplanek, Fall River; Ellen (Mark) Muth, Milton; and Laurel (Ronald) Zager, Wisconsin Rapids; six grandchildren, Kristine (Rod) Hebel, Marshall; Kelly (Derek) Ellsbury, De Forest; Matthew (Michelle) Muth, Janesville; Philip Muth (DeAnn), So. Beloit, IL; Brian Zager, Wisconsin Rapids; and Jessica Zager, Wisconsin Rapids; four great-grandchildren, Richie (fiancée Samantha Lulich) Hensen, Marshall; Amanda Hensen, Marshall; Carter Muth, Janesville, Aaliyah Rose Muth, Janesville; and many other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Henry, and sister, Genevieve Lipke. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Atrium Post Acute Care, Aspirus Comfort Care and Hospice Services and Herman-Taylor Funeral Home for their exceptional care.
