Obituary of Walter W. Jackson

Walter (Walt) Jackson of 5561 Victorian Way, Wisconsin Rapids, passed away on Friday, March 11, 2016 following a brief battle with a vicious cancer. He was 70 years old. Walt was born July 31, 1945 in Rushville, Indiana, to Charles and Grace (Carson) Jackson. He married Gale Huebl of Wisconsin Rapids on August 9, 1969. Walt came to Wisconsin in 1968 following his military service. He liked the people and the lifestyle so well he stayed. He never did like the winters though. Consolidated Papers Inc. employed him for 33 years until the company was sold. He was owner of Rapids Trophy for several years. He held various part-time jobs in retirement just to keep busy. Walt enjoyed golf, having 2 holes-in-ones, and winning the VERSO Corporation Golf League with his son in 2015. Camping with family, friends, and grandchildren were special times. Cruising was his travel passion. He took great pride in maintaining his home and lawn. Walt's second home was his workshop where he easily earned a PHD in the "Art of Piddling." Walt was a veteran of the US Air Force, serving honorably for 4.5 years during the Vietnam War. He is survived by his wife, Gale and three children: Jennifer (Raul) Soto of Slinger, Meg DuBois (fiance' Chad) and Daniel (Jen) Jackson of Wisconsin Rapids. He was Bumpa to seven grandchildren who each filled a special pocket in his heart; Brennan and Aaron Jackson, Logan DuBois, Anthony and Alexandra Soto, and Lauren and Trevor Jackson. He is also survived by two sisters: Julia (Gordon) Kattner of Carmel, IN and Jean Singh of Stevens Point; brothers-in-law Phil and Bill Huebl; sister-in-law Sue Sachs; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and in-laws Nick and Betty Huebl. Herman-Taylor Funeral Home is assisting with cremation. Interment with military honor will be at Pioneer Cemetery at 2:30 P.M. Sunday, April 3. A Rock and Roll Celebration of Life (as planned by Walt) will follow at the Central Wisconsin Cultural Center from 3:30-7:00 P.M. Walt requested memorials be made to Ministry Home Care Hospice or UW Madison Cancer Center. We were blessed to have such professionals in our lives even for such a short time.
