Obituary of Gilbert A. Cook
Gilbert Alan Cook, age 74, of Port Edwards, died early Friday morning, March 25, 2016 at his residence following a courageous battle with cancer.
Memorial services will be at 6:00 P.M. on Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Doug Schalow will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until the time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Gilbert was born December 2, 1941 in Wisconsin Rapids to Webster and Bertha (Vollert) Cook. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Wisconsin Rapids in 1959. He served his country in the United States Airforce from 1964-1968 and was stationed at Elmendorf Air Force Base, Anchorage, Alaska.
He married Linda (Meier) Worzalla in 1969. They were blessed with a daughter, Dawn. The marriage ended in divorce. He married Jean (Piltz) Spickler in 1986.
He was employed at Consolidated Papers Inc. and retired in 2003.
Gilbert loved the outdoors and spent many hours hunting and fishing. In later years, he and his wife Jean enjoyed fishing in upper Minnesota.
Gilbert is survived by his wife, Jean; one daughter, Dawn Cook, Ocean Springs, MS; one sister, Kathleen (Cook) Urban, Pittsville, WI; and two nephews and two nieces and their families. He is also survived by three step-children; four step-grandchildren; and thirteen step-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Edward Urban.
