Obituary of Thomas Alan Winkels

Thomas Alan Winkels, age 74, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Monday, November 18, 2019 at his home surrounded by family.

Tom was born October 14, 1945 in Wisconsin Rapids to James and Florence (Hanneman) Winkels.  He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1964-1966.  He married JoLynn Doughty on May 20, 1992 in South Padre Island, Texas.

Tom worked for Consolidated Papers Inc. in the Wisconsin Rapids Division for 35 years, retiring in 2000 as a machine tender on #15 machine.

Tom loved hunting, especially bow hunting.  He also enjoyed playing golf and took great pride in his lawn.  He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching the Green Bay Packers, Brewers, and St. Louis Cardinals.

Tom is survived by his wife, JoLynn; daughters, Becky (Daniel) Heisler and Amanda (Andrew) Fondow; grandchildren: Ashley (Bill) Dassow, Zachary and Chloe Heisler, and JonPaul and Eva Fondow; great-grandchildren: Clayton, Cameron, Dawson and Kinley Dassow; brother, James (Sally) Winkels; sister, Cynthia (Robert) Elliott; special nieces and nephews, and brothers and sisters-in-law.  He is preceded in death by his parents and his in-laws: Wilford and Betty Doughty.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, November 22, 2019 at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner.  Rev. Kevin Ader will officiate.  Burial will follow at St. John Lutheran Parish Cemetery, with military honors rendered by American Legion Post 520, Vesper, WI assisted by American Legion Riders District 8.  Visitation for family and friends will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service on Friday at the church.
