Obituary of John Herman Behrend
John Herman Behrend, 93, of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Tuesday, July 25, 2017, at Aspirus Riverview Hospital in Wisconsin Rapids surrounded by his family.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, July 29, 2017, at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner, Wisconsin. Visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until time of services at the church. Rev. Kevin Ader will officiate. Burial will take place at St. John Lutheran Church Parish Cemetery in the Town of Grant.
John was born June 15, 1924, to Herman and Gertrude (Kasdorf) Behrend. Both of his parents passed away while John was young. He married Joanne Saeger on July 18, 1953, at St. John Lutheran Church in Kellner. He retired from working for Consolidated Papers Inc. in June 1986.
John was an avid Milwaukee Brewers fan, but one of his most cherished pastimes was taking his wife Joanne, to the Sherryland ballroom on Sunday afternoons for polkas. He enjoyed spending time with his family; especially attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, which he never missed. He was the best father and grandfather a family could ask for.
John is survived by his wife, Joanne; children: Sharon (Bill) Coley and Bruce (Sheryl) Behrend; and grandchildren: Bradley and Brandon Behrend. He is preceded in death by his parents, sisters: Ruby Eberhardt, Lilah Hoffman, Mildred Miller, Marie Knipple; brothers: Earl Behrend, Herbert Behrend, and Rev. Wilbur Behrend; and many other in-laws.
The family would like to express their greatest appreciation to ALL of John’s caregivers, as well as, Shelby and Ann from Community Link for all their help keeping John in his home where he desired to stay. Additionally, a sincere thank you goes out to Tina at Aspirus Riverview ER for her exceptional care and compassion for John and the family.
