Obituary of Roy Saeger

Roy H. Saeger, age 98, of Wisconsin Rapids, passed away Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Atrium Post Acute Care in Wisconsin Rapids.


Services will be at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 17, 2017 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. John Grohs and Rev. Jonathan Petzold will officiate. Entombment, with full military honors, will take place at Forest Hill Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be held from 9:00 A.M. until the time of service at the church on Saturday.


Roy was born on July 22, 1918 in Kellner, WI to Charles and Louise (Leverance) Saeger. He graduated from Lincoln High School as a member of the Class of 1937. Roy honorably served his country during World War II in the Army Air Corps. He married Betty Jones on June 26, 1948 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids.  They were blessed with 63 years of marriage, until her passing on August 30, 2011.


He was a truck driver for John E. Daly Drug & Jewelry for 22 years.  Roy also worked as a truck driver for Northwest Liquor in Stevens Point, until his retirement.  After his retirement, he served as a part-time custodian at Assumption High School and Immanuel Lutheran School.  Roy loved spending time with his family, enjoying nature: hunting, fishing, and camping. Roy and Betty wintered in Weslaco, Texas for 20 years. It was there he mastered the strategic game of shuffleboard, winning many tournaments. He is loved by his family and will be deeply missed.


Roy is survived by his children: Michael (Wanda) Saeger, Dawn Spencer, Diane Michaud, Donna (John) Sculley, and Patrick (Darlene) Saeger; grandchildren: Jonathan (Lauren) Saeger, Paul Saeger, Heather (Nathan) Bolton, Rebecca (Steve) Suehring, Nicholas Michaud, Maegan (Nicholas) Dauphinais, Jennifer Sculley, Laura Sculley, Matthew Schmidt, Dane Dupee, Bryant Dupee, Trent Dupee, and Steven Saeger; great-grandchildren: Makenna Bolton, Caelen Bolton, Giana Bolton, Jeran Bolton, Jakob Suehring, and Owen Suehring. He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; son, Steven Saeger; parents, Karl and Louise Saeger; sons-in-law: Kenneth Spencer and Kenneth Michaud; 4 brothers and 6 sisters.
