Obituary of Gary L. Luing

Gary L. Luing, age 75, of Wisconsin Rapids, went to eternal rest on Monday, April 18, 2016 at his home. Gary was born in Nobles County, Minnesota to Virgil and Bell (Ray) Luing on February 17, 1940; he was one of six children. His parents V.A. Luing and Elsie Belle Ray Luing, three sisters: Mary Alvey, Vivian Shore and Dorothy Shore; a brother-in-law: Lynn Van der Werff and a sister-in-law: Phyllis Luing all preceded him to Eternal Life. Gary married Judy Lee Cross in Georgia on April 6, 1962 while he was serving in the United States Army. They have five children: Christine (Dale) Danielski, Micheal Luing, Peter (Sally) Luing, Sherilyn (Scott) Mohler and Andrew (Dana) Luing. Other surviving relatives are his brothers: Robert (Faith) Luing and Alfred Luing; brothers-in-law: Lon Cross and Robert Shore. He attended District 76 Country School through the 8th grade in Nobles County, MN and graduated from Worthington Senior High in 1958. Gary entered into a farming partnership with his father in 1956. He farmed near Worthington, MN until 1967. He served in the United States Army from 1961 to 1964. Gary attended heavy equipment military school at Fort Benning, GA and served in reconnaissance in Korea for 13 months. He was honorably discharged at Fort Campbell, KY in 1964. In 1966, Gary and Judy purchased a farm near Rudolph, WI. In 1969, Gary began working at Consolidated Papers, Inc. in the Blade Coater Department. He was a member of Paper Makers Union 187. Gary retired from Stora-Enzo North America on December 31, 2000. Gary enjoyed vacationing in Florida. He had many hobbies including being an avid NASCAR race fan and a country music fan (he had his picture taken with many country music performers). He enjoyed league bowling and bicycling. Gary was Treasurer of Engle Fellowship Lodge (IOOF) #91, he donated 18 gallons of blood through the Stora-Enzo Blood Donor Program at Riverview Hospital. His love and kindness to animals spoke volumes and many pets are buried in his animal burial ground; his favorite dog Fonzie and his favorite cat Simba being among them. His cats Mugsy and Morgan were always by his side. He enjoyed shooting pool and playing 500 cards at the Lowell Center, after his retirement. Grateful and proud to have shared his life are his wife Judy, 5 children named above; 13 grandchildren: Justin (Kim), Jeff, Michael, Kaylee, Grace, Peter, Joshua, Nathan, Jared, James, Cooper, Jackson, Joshua; 7 great-grandchildren: Keegan, Joslyn, Ayva, Barry, Katelyn, Kaileigh and Wyatt. The family held a private memorial service. I believe in infinite God, my maker, who will come to take me to the place He has prepared for me. I will not be far away, just around a bend. I will wait until your earthly work is done, so I may welcome you when God brings you to your Eternal Home.
