Obituary of Arnold H. Rotermund

Arnold H. Rotermund, 90, went to be with his Lord on April 20, 2016. Arnie was born on December 5, 1925, to Rev. Frederick and Marie (Scheiwe) Rotermund, Sigel, WI. He attended St. John's Lutheran for elementary school and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1943. Arnold worked on the family farm, then as a milk delivery man for Wisconsin Valley Dairy and Dairy State Cheese, before joining Consolidated Papers in 1950. He began as a laborer in the yard and over the years worked in the coating department, machine room, as an apprentice pipefitter, journeyman pipefitter, and air conditioning specialist. He worked in all four CPI paper mills. He also served as shop steward and bargaining committee member for the United Association of the Plumbing and Pipefitter Industry, Local 807. On June 2, 1951, he married Ruth Rickman. They were blessed with two daughters, Mary and Jane, and enjoyed 64 years of marriage. Arnold was a longtime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Rapids, where he served on many boards, including the Board of Elders, Fisherman's Club, Evangelism, Stewardship, and Shut-in Ministry, and also sang in the choir for many years. Arnie loved the outdoors, including hunting, fishing, and taking yearly fishing trips to Canada with family and friends. He continued to hunt in the tree deerstand, missing only the last season of the hunt last year, ending a run of nearly 80 years. Many of these qualities he passed on to his grandchildren, sons-in-law, and nephews. Arnold enjoyed bowling, playing cards, tinkering in the garage, and traveling, having, having visited all 50 states. He was the handyman for his family and neighbors. He loved spending time with famiy and friends at the cottage he and Ruth built in Minocqua, WI, establishing a legacy for his family. Arnold was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and (sisters-in-law) John (Marjorie), Harold (Mabel), Fred (Doris), and his sisters and (brothers-in-law) Irene (Robert) Klevene, HIldegard (Harold) Mueske, Bernice (Glen) Malenke, and Helen (Ted) Hessel. Arnold's greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; daughters Mary (David) Irish, Brookfield; and Jane (David) Eichhorn, Oshkosh; grandchildren Nicholas (Jen) Irish, Westland, MI; Christopher (Bethany) Irish, Oconomowoc; Melissa (Scott) Tenhagen, New Berlin; Chelsea (Jacob) Ehmke, Madison; Hailey (James) Taylor, Appleton; and Riley Eichhorn (fiance' Samantha), Raleigh, NC.; and great grandchildren: Caylie, Brady, Cade, Brenna, Violet, and Joanna. He is further survived by numerous loving nieces and nephews. Friends may call Sunday, April 24th at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 8th Street South, from 12:30 until the time of service at 2:30. He will be laid to rest in Forest Hill Cemetery, Wisconsin Rapids, on Monday, April 25th. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran (Wisconsin Rapids), Rock of Ages (Minocqua), Our Redeemer Lutheran School LIFT Program (Wauwatosa), and St. Agnesian Hospice (Fond du Lac). The family wishes to thank Lori at Saint Agnesian Hospice, and Bella Vista Manor/Assisted Living caregivers, Oshkosh, for their constant help and support, as well as others who offered prayers, sent cards, and made visits.
