Obituary of Alfred Hoerth
Alfred B. Hoerth, 93, of Wisconsin Rapids, died Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home in Port Edwards.
Services will be at 1:00 pm on Saturday, December 3 at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home. Rev. James Douglas will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in the Town of Grand Rapids.
Alfred was born in Seebach, Germany on February 3, 1918 to Herman and Christina (Von Follert) Hoerth. They came to the U.S.A. in 1926.
Alfred married Dorothy Pfeiffer on March 23, 1942 in Dubuque, Iowa. They were married 61 years. Dorothy died on April 15, 2003.
Alfred worked as a machinist at Air-Research in Phoenix, Arizona, making propeller dies for World War II and then machined components for the first space flight. He then worked as a Tool & Die maker at A.O. Smith and Milwaukee Machine, both in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Alfred retired in 1975 and resided in Wisconsin Rapids since 1983.
He was a golden gloves boxer who also played soccer football for Walkers Club champion Team in Milwaukee, 1938. Al also played baseball for the North Side Merchants in Milwaukee and was a league bowler. He enjoyed golf, camping, horseback riding, tennis, scrabble, chess, and traveling with the family.
Alfred is survived by his children: Donna (Timm) Lekvin of Eau Claire, Wisconsin; Janet (Ted) Nelson of Holmen, Wisconsin; James (Rena) Hoerth of Hustiford, Wisconsin; and Ronald (Terri) Hoerth of Wisconsin Rapids; 7 granddaughters, six great-grandchildren, and one brother-in-law, Harold (Janet) Pfeiffer of Springfield, Missouri. He was preceded in death by brother-in-law Art (Lynn) Pfeiffer of Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Friends may call at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until the time of services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be designated to St. Paul?s Lutheran Church, or to South Wood County Humane Society.
The family wishes to extend a thank you to the staff members at Edgewater Haven Nursing Home for their special care of Alfred.
