Obituary of David Kauffman

David Douglas Kauffman, 72, loving husband, father, and grandfather, went home to be with his Lord on Monday, January 16, 2012. Dave was born October 17, 1939 in Baraboo, Wisconsin to Francis and Sylvia (Siirila) Kauffman. He grew up in Wisconsin Rapids, and graduated in 1957 from Lincoln High School. Dave attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison and received a BA in Journalism. He also earned a BA in Theology from North Central Bible College in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He married Judy Hanson on August 14, 1971 in St. Paul, Minnesota. Dave was a news editor, reporter and paginator for the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the Sun Newspapers, the Owensboro Messenger and Inquirer, the Marshfield News Herald, and the Wisconsin Rapids Daily Tribune. Dave had a beautiful bass voice and sang in choir and operettas in high school as well as church choirs and for special events. In later years he sang with the Northern Gateway Barbershop Chorus. He played cornet in the high school band. Dave loved being with his family and friends, playing tennis, going for walks, traveling, fishing, reading and playing cards and dominoes. He was a photographer and loved gadgets of all sorts. He enjoyed model trains, collecting rocks and flying model airplanes. He taught Sunday School and helped with Royal Rangers. He is survived by his wife, Judy; sons Jonathan and Jeremy (Sonia); daughter, Dawn (Jason) Burch; Grandchildren: Elizabeth, Travis, Nathanial, Jenna, Jeremiah, Ashley, Quintin, Simon and Caleb; one sister, Stephanie Kauffman. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Gerald. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 19, 2012 from 4 to 7 PM at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home, 2201 Chestnut Street, Wisconsin Rapids. Funeral services will be on Friday, January 20, 2012 at Christian Life Fellowship Church, 600 7th Street, Port Edwards at 11 AM with visitation from 10 AM until the time of services. Many thanks to the doctors and staff at St. Joseph?s Hospital and Edgewater Haven for their care of Dave. Thank you to all who sent cards visited and prayed for us during these difficult days.
