Obituary of George Hafermann
George A. Hafermann, 80, of 511 19th Avenue South, Wisconsin Rapids, died Thursday evening, February 23, 2012, at Strawberry Lane Medical Center in Wisconsin Rapids.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, February 27th, at St. Paul?s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Martin Baur and Rev. James Douglas will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
George was born July 13, 1931 in Wisconsin Rapids to Arthur and Laura (Schroeder) Hafermann Sr. He was united in marriage to Barbara Marvin on May 24, 1952 in California. She preceded him in death on September 7, 2008.
George served his country in the United States Marines during the Korean War, from 1951-1953.
He was employed by Consolidated Papers Inc. for 45 years.
George was a faithful and active member of St. Paul?s Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on church counsel and other committees. He sang in the church choir for 50 years, and used his musical talents to enhance weddings and funerals.
George loved sports, especially baseball and hunting. He helped coach baseball at Lincoln High School for 25+ years and also coached Legion baseball. He coached grade school basketball for 20 years at St. Paul?s Lutheran School. George also played softball for many years, and enjoyed golfing.
He is survived by one daughter, Pamela (Paul) Barbour of Sterling, Virginia; one brother, Robert (Joan) Hafermann of Wisconsin Rapids; one sister, Helen Kroening of Wisconsin Rapids; brother-in-law, Darl Marvin of Ontario, Canada; sister-in-laws, Pat Schade of Wisconsin Rapids and Sharon Craft of Wisconsin Rapids; and many nieces and nephews, and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Barbara, three sisters: Verna Gallatin , Ruth Mattheis, and Cecelia Brahmstead; and seven brothers: Harold, Leonard, Earl, Arthur Jr., Armin, Elmer, and Richard.
Friends may call at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday and at St. Paul?s Evangelical Lutheran Church from 12:00 Noon until the time of services on Monday.
Memorials may be designated to St. Paul?s Evangelical Lutheran Church mortgage or to Northland Lutheran High School.
