Obituary of Darrell Newman
Darrell Lee Newman, 65, of 1850 Lincoln Street, Wisconsin Rapids, died Tuesday, March 6, 2012, at his residence.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 13, 2012 at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home. Rev. Charles Bradbury will officiate. Military rites will be provided by VFW Post 2534. Burial will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.
Darrell was born August 12, 1946 in Wisconsin Rapids, the son of Ferdinand and Violet (Newman) Omernick and Thomas George.
Darrell served his country in the United States Army in the Vietnam War and was awarded several medals, including a Bronze Star with a valor device, a Distinguished Service Medal and a Purple Heart. He served in the 513 and 70th transport companies, the 226 supply and service company and the 77th artillery, 1st Calvary division. Darrell retired from active military service on December 20, 1982.
He was a life member of the Purple Heart and Disabled American Veterans, and was enshrined in the American Legion Roll of Honor. He loved to go fishing, was active at the local VFW and was always very helpful and compassionate to his neighbors, family and friends.
Darrell is survived by his daughter: Desiree Kline of Annville, Pennsylvania; three grandchildren: Penelope and Alyssa Kline and Brodie Clay, all of Annville, Pennsylvania; one brother, Mike (Lynn) Karlstedt of Mahttowa, Minnesota; two sisters: Beverly (Doug) Hazelwood and Sherry Siddal of Wisconsin Rapids; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a twin sister, Donna Mae Newman; two brothers, Gary Karlstedt and Mark Omernick; a grandchild, Katrina Kline.
Friends may call at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home from 10:00 am until the time of services on Tuesday.
