Obituary of Velma Knuteson

Velma Mae Knuteson, 95, Vesper, died Sunday April 29, 2012 at The House Of The Dove in Marshfield. Services will be at 10:30 am on Thursday, May 3, 2012 at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church (County Trunk D, Vesper, WI 64489) in Seneca Corners. Rev. Bob Buckman will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at St. Paul?s Lutheran Church on Wednesday, May 2nd from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, and again at the church on Thursday from 9:30 AM until the time of services. Velma was born in the Township of Siegel, Wood County, Wisconsin on November 26, 1916 to Alvin and Viola (Winch) Kissinger. She married Howard L. Knuteson on December 24, 1935 in Wisconsin Rapids. He died on April 2nd, 1991. Velma was a homemaker and she loved farming. She had a natural gift for music. Without taking any lessons she became an accomplished accordion player and organist. She and her brother, Alfred (who played the saxophone) entertained at barn dances in the early 1930?s. She played the organ for Saint Paul?s Lutheran Church, Seneca Corners, from December, 1951 until November 2011. Velma loved to socialize (especially with her water aerobics friends), had a good sense of humor and remained mentally sharp and very active throughout her life. A few of her accomplishments were beginning water aerobics in her 80?s,volunteering with numerous organizations over the years and traveling to China, Israel and Egypt. Velma is survived by her children: Dale (Becky) Knuteson, Martinsville, IN; Judy (Mike) Dahl, Montevideo, MN; Kathy (Warren) Wesley, Ham Lake, MN; Roger (Maggie) Knuteson, Stillwater, MN; Cindy (Bill) Johnson, Vesper, WI; Karen (Mike) Oleson, Wisconsin Rapids, WI; Grandchildren: Erick (Deb) Knuteson, Hope (Jerry) Ball, Jason (Allyson) Knuteson, Christy (Ron) Horton, Laurie Dahl, Holly (Lance Seibert) Wesley, Carolyn Wesley, Casey (Amy) Knuteson, Conor Knuteson, Jessie Oleson and Tracy Olson; Step-grandchildren: Jody Stephens, Kim Schooley, Billy Johnson, Dawn Dibb, Heather Korntved, and Shayne Johnson; 40 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Knuteson; grandson, Jon Knuteson; brother, Alfred Kissinger; son-in-law, Bill Brunner.
