Obituary of George Overzet
George Overzet, 97, formerly of the Town of Sigel, died Monday night, May 21, 2012 at Riverview Medical Center.
Services will be at 11:00 am on Friday, May 25th at New Hope Community Church (CRC). Pastor Mary Bosch will officiate. Burial will be in Christian Reformed Cemetery in the Town of Sigel.
George was born in the Town of Sigel, Wisconsin on August 4, 1914 to Jelte and Everdine (Groenboom) Overzet. He married Josephine ?Josie? (Holstein) on May 20, 1942.
George lived and worked on his farm in The Town of Sigel most of his life until he moved to Wisconsin Rapids. He volunteered for the Town of Sigel as a seasonal worker. He also was employed as a first class mechanic for Nekoosa Edwards Paper Company until his retirement in 1979.
He was a faithful member of New Hope Community Church, serving in many capacities. George was also an associate member of Wycliffe Associates Bible translators.
George was a family man who truly enjoyed the family reunions. He was a dedicated, hard working man with a big heart, who could fix most anything. He was always willing to lend a helping hand in any way possible. He had a deep compassion for the poor and needy. He enjoyed watching the Packers and the Brewers.
George is survived by his wife, Josephine; 2 sons: Gary and Richard; 1 daughter: Bonita (David) Carlson; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by 4 brothers and 8 sisters.
Friends may call at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home from 5pm to 7pm on Thursday, May 24th and at the church on Friday from 10:00 am until the time of services.
