Obituary of Russell Dougherty
Russell Joseph Dougherty, 87, of Kissimmee, Florida, formerly of Wisconsin Rapids passed away Monday afternoon, June 4, 2012 at Pine Ridge Assisted Living under the care of Ministry Home Care Hospice.
Services will be at Noon on Friday, June 8th at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by VFW Post 2534. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at noon on Friday.
Russell was born July 15, 1924 in Appleton, to Robert and Helen (Oelke) Dougherty. He married Joyce Metcalf in Appleton on June 7, 1947. The couple was blessed with 33 years of marriage and five children. Joyce passed away December 21, 1980.
Russell served his country in the United States Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
Russell owned and operated Rapids Coin Machine Service in Wisconsin Rapids, until selling the company and moving to Florida where he worked as sales director for the Sherwood Forest mobile home park where he resided in Kissimmee.
He was a lifetime member of The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge 693 in Wisconsin Rapids and was also a member of the lodge in Kissimmee. He enjoyed spending time traveling in his motor home and entertaining family and friends, especially after moving to Florida. Russell was proud of his second career as sales director for Sherwood Forest.
Russell is survived by three sons: Stephen Dougherty, Scott (Pam) Dougherty, and Daniel Dougherty, all of Wisconsin Rapids; one daughter, Susan Fadli of Wausau; ten grandchildren: Aaron (Sasha) Winters of Wisconsin Rapids, Christopher Dougherty of Chicago, Kevin (Beca) Dougherty of Parker, Colorado, Keith (Christen) Dougherty and Greg (Emily) Dougherty, both of Green Bay; Amy Jo White and Adam White of Wausau; Jarrett and Ryan Dougherty of Nekoosa; and Amber Boudreau of Edgar; four great-grandchildren: Liam, Jordan, Damion, and Landon; and a very special friend, Nona Peterson of Appleton. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, Joyce, son, Chuck, brothers, Robert and William, and sister, Betty Smith.
A memorial will be established in Russell?s memory by the family at a later date.
