Obituary of Mildred Henke

Mildred M. Henke, age 89, died on July 10, 2012, at Pine Ridge Assisted Living, Wisconsin Rapids, where she had been a resident the past four years. Funeral services are at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 17, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wisconsin Rapids. The Reverend John Grohs will officiate. Entombment will be in Forest Hill Mausoleum. Friends may call at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 16, and at Immanuel Lutheran Church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services. Millie was born May 13, 1923, in Wisconsin Rapids to the late Ernest and Emma Appel. She married Raymond Henke on July 20, 1946, at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Her husband, Ray, died in 2007. After graduating from Lincoln High School, Millie started working at Wood County Telephone Company in 1941. She retired from there in 1983. Ray and Millie enjoyed golfing, bowling, and traveling, as well as wintering in Florida, Texas, and Arizona with many of their Wisconsin Rapids friends. Millie is survived by her four children, Gary (Sue) Henke of Colgate, Nancy (Dave) Behrend, Judy (Dave) Klappa, and Harvey (Brenda) Henke, all of Wisconsin Rapids. She is further survived by seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and eight step-great-grandchildren. Millie was preceded in death by her husband Ray, granddaughter Erin Henke, two brothers Harold Appel and Delton Appel, one sister Bernice Martin, and sister-in-law Elaine Sullivan and her husband Charles. Memorials may be designated to Immanuel Lutheran Church or School at 111 11th Street North, Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494. The family extends heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the wonderful staff at Pine Ridge Assisted Living for the loving care given to Millie the past four years.
