Obituary of Nelvin Peterson
Nelvin I. Peterson Jr. (Nellie) (Pete) joined his family in heaven on July 17, 2012 after a reoccurrence of leukemia.
Nelvin I. Peterson Jr. was born on 9/26/33 in Eau Claire, WI. He attended Osseo Public Schools and graduated in 1951. He attended Eau Claire State & Lacrosse University before being drafted into the Army in 1953. After an honorable discharge in 1955 he returned to Lacrosse University and graduated in 1958 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He worked as Physical Director of the Wausau WMCA for 2 years and entered the teaching profession as a teacher and coach at Horace Mann Junior High until 1967. He worked for Employer?s Insurance of Wausau as a salesman and Personnel Service Mgr. for the Twin Cities and as salesman at Winona and Rochester, MN until 1976. He managed the Crest Motel and Supper Club in Caledonia, MN until a MN farm girl saved him. He married his true love and best friend, Marilyn, in 1976 and together they raised six children. They managed the Crest Motel and Supper Club in Caledonia, MN, the Viroqua Golf and Country Club in Viroqua, WI, the Platteville Golf and Country Club in Platteville, WI, and the Legion Lounge in Platteville, WI. They moved to Show Low, AZ in 1985 and he worked as a Safety Consultant and Manager for the State Compensation Fund in Yuma and Show Low until 2000 when he retired. He was named Outstanding Employee two years in a row. The move back to WI was so they could be closer to their kids.
He was a handyman and could do almost any project with excellence. He loved spending time with family and friends. Golf was his passion and he enjoyed reminiscing with his Oktoberfest buddies every fall in the north woods of WI.
Survivors include his wife, Marilyn, four children, Eric Peterson, Paul Peterson (Jana), Barb Peterson, Brenda Crubaugh (Mark); grandchildren, Taunia Dostal, Bobbie Jo Sunday (Adam), Gary Dostal (Kati), Paul Peterson, Jr., Reanna Peterson, Brynn Mueller, Brooklynn Scott, Mitch Tanner (Ashley), Malerie Tanner, Kevin Crubaugh, Danny Crubaugh; 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Elgie Henderson and Audrey Nelson (Ron); plus numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents Nelvin and Bergliot Peterson, three daughters, Jean Dostal, Marcia Gunderson, infant Susan, two sisters, Connie Olson and Lila McClure (Haukeness); two brothers-in-law, Ray Henderson and John Haukeness.
Nelvin and Marilyn would like to thank Dr. Bseiso and the nurses in the WR Marshfield Clinic for their excellent care and concern. Also the doctors and nurses on the 8th floor of Ministry St. Joseph?s Hospital.
A visitation will be from 2 to 4 pm on Friday, July 20, 2012 at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids followed by a Celebration of Life at 4:00 pm.
