Obituary of Ruth Rockwood
Ruth C. Rockwood, Wisconsin Rapids, died Wednesday, August 29, 2012 at her home surrounded by her family.
Services will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 3, 2012 at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Rev. John Grohs will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 AM on Monday at the church until the time of services.
Ruth was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on April 25, 1919 to August and Hilda (Kraft) Braun. Ruth?s first marriage was to Clarence Mras, who died in a car accident in 1956. Ruth later married Lyle Rockwood on July 12, 1960 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He died on September 21, 1990.
Ruth was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church since the 1940?s, having served on the Altar Guild and the Evening Guild. She enjoyed decorating the church for Christmas and Easter. Ruth, being a gifted artist was well known for her porcelain painting and rosemaling.
Ruth was a devoted, loving wife, mother and grandmother. The highlight and love of her life was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many happy memories were shared at her cottage on Big Carr Lake.
Ruth is survived by her children: Nancy Tosch, Carol Jean Adams, James Rockwood (Jean), and Pam Hilgendorf (Larry); daughter-in-law: Janet Rockwood; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters: Dorris Havlik, Betty Urban (Earl) and Carol Tracy; and close family friend: Jeanie Rickdall. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Clarence Mras; second husband, Lyle Rockwood; mother and father, Hilda and August Braun; son, Jack Rockwood; and son-in-law, Jack Tosch.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Christine Uber and Ministry Home Care Hospice Services for their exceptional care for Ruth.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church (111 11th St North, Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494) or to Ruth?s favorite charity, the Smile Train (PO Box 96231 Washington, D.C. 20090-6231) to assist their work in repairing children?s cleft lips and palates in developing countries.
