Obituary of Dee Stevenson
Dee Stanley Stevenson, 77, Wisconsin Rapids, died Sunday, September 23, 2012 at his home with love and concern of his family. He had a short battle of Pulmonary Fibrosis.
A Celebration of Dee?s Life will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 27 at Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home. Reverend Paul Liebherr will officiate. Friends may call on the family from 9:30 AM until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.
Dee was born May 13, 1935 in Wichita, KS to the late Charlie and Avis (Mounts) Stevenson. He married the love of his life, Colleen Bowers, on August 31, 1956 in Pond Creek, OK. The couple was blessed with the births of two daughters, Charlene and Trina. Dee and Colleen celebrated 56 wonderful years together.
Dee owned and operated Rapids Remodel Shop most of his life.
He was known for his cabinet and home remodeling. In his early years he worked for Allis Chalmers as a draftsman. Dee was a Mechanical Design Instructor at Mid-State Technical College from 1964-1972.
When his country called, Dee enlisted in the US Navy form March 1954 to December 1955, serving aboard the submarine USS Spinax and earning the National Defense Service Medal and the China Service Medal.
Dee was a man who strongly valued the closeness of family no matter how many miles they may be separated. Many trips were made to Arkansas and Oklahoma to visit with relatives over the years. His love of travel also led to many trips west visiting whatever points of interest he and Colleen could find. In addition to his regular family, Dee and Colleen also had another family; one that grew from their love of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association and all the people that they have met over the years garnering them the title ?World?s Greatest Rodeo Fans?.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Colleen; daughters, Charlene (Bill Elkington) Stevenson and Trina Platt; grandchildren, Amber Bachtel, Courtney Elkington and Mary Platt; great-grandchildren, Grant and Kaelyn Christianson; brother, Max (Ruth Jo) Stevenson; niece, Laura (Ben) Mueller; nephew, Dale (Denise) Stevenson; and extended family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Mid-State Technical College Foundation (500 32nd Street North, Wisconsin Rapids, WI 54494) in memory of Dee Stevenson.
