Obituary of George Peterson
George R. ?Bud? Peterson, 76, of Wisconsin Rapids, died Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse.
Funeral services will be at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 15th at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center. Rev. Kevin Ader will officiate. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post 9. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until the time of services on Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be on Tuesday at Pioneer Cemetery.
George was born January 16, 1936 in Wisconsin Rapids to John and Gladys (Bates) Peterson. He married Marilyn Hanneman on April 12, 1958. She died on December 6, 1989.
George served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War. He worked as a millwright for Preway Inc. for many years until his retirement.
George had a love for the outdoors and enjoyed camping, fishing, and daily trips in his truck to look around the Buena Vista marsh. He liked stock car racing and was able to attend a couple of NASCAR races in Michigan with his son, Kevin. George had a special bond with his grandchildren and enjoyed spending precious time with them. In later years, George enjoyed trips to the casino with his special friend, Moni Steiner, and spending time tinkering with Kevin in their small scrap metal business.
George is survived by his son, Kevin and his wife Barb Peterson of Wisconsin Rapids; four grandchildren: Josh (Nic) Peterson of North Hollywood, California and their children, Burke and Eve, Elizabeth (Randy) Rasmussen of Stevens Point, William Wolf of North Kingstown, Rhode Island, and Aron Peterson of Mondovi and his children, Lauren and Marie; two brothers: Ralph (Arlene) Peterson of Wisconsin Rapids and Jim (Alice) Peterson of Nekoosa; and two special friends: Michelle Smith and Coco Steiner. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marilyn, daughter-in-law, Anita (Wolosek) Peterson, and special friend, Moni Steiner.
