Dorothy was born in Sparta, WI on October 30, 1928 to the late Charles and Eva (North) Franklin. She graduated of Beloit Memorial High School, and shortly after married the love of her life, James William Vancil, in LaCrosse on November 15, 1947. They celebrated 51 years together prior to James passing on April 7, 1999.
Throughout her life, Dorothy worked at a variety of jobs: the Camp McCoy Laundry, Freeman Shoe Factory, Andy?s Supermarket, Riverview Hospital and Bull?s Eye Country Club. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Red Society.
Her favorite ?job? though, was to be a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She loved to cook and bake many wonderful dishes for her family, never letting the deer hunters of the family go hungry during hunting season. Also important to her, was Trinity Lutheran Church, Vesper. She was active in the Trinity Ladies Aid and sewed countless quilts over the years to be donated. Dorothy also enjoyed crocheting and would make her own patterns.
Dorothy is survived by her children, Floyd (Barbara) Vancil of Granton, Ralph Vancil of Wisconsin Rapids, Charles (Jackie) Vancil of Arpin, Shorty (Kim) Vancil of Port Edwards and Julie (Ray) Kurz of Marshfield; grandchildren, Adam (Stephanie) Vancil, William (Sara) Vancil, Tiffany (Josh) Scott, Craig Heinrich, Andrea Graff, Heather Vancil, Ryan (Jessica) Kurz, Robert (Kale) Kurz, Aubrianna (Cris) Henry and Tervin (Mara) Kurz; great-grandchildren, Raven, Bryndon, Ash, Alexus, Evan, Jackson, Bailey, Kallen and Natalia; siblings, Bev (Watson) Schoonover and Barb (Robert) Garetson both of Beloit; and extended family and friends.
