Obituary of Nellie Hamm
Nellie Jane Hamm, 104, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 at Arborwood Lodge. She resided at 6679 State Highway 34, Rudolph until she celebrated her 101st birthday. She then moved to Arborwood Lodge in Wisconsin Rapids.
Services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday, October 20th at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home, 2201 Chestnut Street, Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Christine Stack will officiate. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Friday and from 10:00 am until the time of services on Saturday at the funeral home.
Nellie was born on November 9, 1907 in Bancroft, WI to Frank and Daisy (Bratton) Clark. She attended various grade schools and graduated from Plainfield High School in 1925. She then attended Stevens Point Teachers College (now the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point) receiving a degree in elementary education. She taught in rural schools in Francher, Cartmill and LaFollette in Portage County for many years.
On June 10, 1933, she married Ernest John Hamm of Rudolph at the Trinity Lutheran Parsonage in Wisconsin Rapids. She and Ernest were wed in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Ethel and brother-in-law Edward Lamb.
Ernest Hamm was proprietor of the Hamm?s Dairy which distributed bottled milk in Biron, Wisconsin Rapids and Rudolph. He also farmed in the Rudolph vicinity. He died on June 11, 1973. After his death, Nellie spent the next 26 winters with her daughter Beverly and husband Edward Seman and grandchildren in Washington D.C. and Virginia.
Nellie was a member of the Rudolph Moravian Church and a member of the Moravian Ladies Fellowship for 65 years. She belonged to the Rudolph Senior Citizens Group, enjoying a social outlet and playing cards with many wonderful friends. For eleven years she was employed at the Wilshire Shop in Stevens Point. Her hobbies included reading and cruele stitch needlework. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and had an active part in their lives.
Survivors include a daughter, Beverly (Edward) Seman of Chincoteague Island, VA and one son Gary (Mary) of Rudolph; sister, Nettie Pascavis She has 15 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernest, son Duane, baby daughter LaVaun, her parents, brothers Arthur, Arnold and Harold Clark, and sisters Ethel Lamb, Maudie Sullivan and Ardith Bidwell Winkler.
