Obituary of Herbert Bohm
Herbert J. Bohm, 89, formerly of Vesper, died Thursday, October 18, 2012 at Riverview Medical Center in Wisconsin Rapids.
Services will be at 11:00 am on Wednesday October 24th at Trinity Lutheran Church in Vesper. Rev. Douglas Schalow will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery in the Town of Hansen.
Herbert was born in Shawano, Wisconsin on January 4, 1923 to Albert and Mary (Westemeyer) Bohm. He married Betty J. Behling on March 20, 1943 in South Milwaukee. The couple was blessed with 69 years of marriage until her passing on April 19, 2012.
He served his country in the Army Infantry in the European Theater during World War II from 1943 to 1946.
Herbert and Betty were involved in several businesses in the Vesper area during their years together. They owned/operated The Restaurant, The Village Pump and Vesper Clothing. He also operated Nick?s Tavern in Vesper, was a fieldman for Sanna Dairies for many years and later worked as a supervisor for Kerry Ingredients.
Not only was Herbert a prominent businessman in Vesper, he was also very supportive of his community by serving in various organizations. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the VFW Post, American Legion Post, and the last surviving charter member of the Vesper Volunteer Fire Department, serving from 1948 until 1972.
Herbert was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially for musky. He loved spending time with his family and others. Some of his favorite things to do included playing cards (poker) and watching the Packers and the Brewers games?. He also loved to listen to music, especially Big Band, and sing along with the tunes. In his later years, Herbert became an expert at baking, particularly crazy cake and lemon cake.
Herbert is survived by his children: Carol (Chris) Woodworth Zindorf, of Elroy, WI; Judith Ray, of Colorado Springs, CO; Robert (Karen) Bohm, Vesper; Daniel (Laura) Bohm, Friendship; David (Beth) Bohm, Littleton, CO; Timothy (Sherri) Bohm, Colorado Springs, CO; Grandchildren: Brenda (James) Gaier, Paula (Stephen) Caucutt, Scott (Kelly) Woodworth, Aaron (Lauren) Ray, Allison Ray, Stephanie (Brian Nelson) Bohm, Nicole (Rocky) Hulne, Lindsey (Geoffrey) Andrade, Megan (Chris) Lang, Tori (Jeremiah) Peterson, Brittany Bohm, William (Briony) Bohm, Cristopher Bohm, Alyssa Bohm; step-grandchildren: Adam (Tabitha) Parrott, Julia (William) Robbins, Sam Parrott; 14 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Raymond (Erma) Behling; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Betty; sisters, Dorothy Maas and husband Roy, Viola Gehm and husband, Ernest, Agnes Satorius and husband, Stanley; brothers, Arnold Bohm, Harry Bohm and wife Velora; mother and father-in-law, Albert and Hazel Behling; and brother-in-law, Victor Behling and his wife Evelyn.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 2201 Chestnut Street, Wisconsin Rapids, and from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services on Wednesday at the church.
