Obituary of Roger Buttke

Roger passed away after a lengthy illness on Thursday, October 25, 2012. He was born on December 1, 1934 in Alma Center, WI to August and Iona (Rush) Buttke. Roger graduated from Alma Center High School in 1952, and married his sweetheart Jean Marie Amoth on December 15, 1956. Roger and Jean moved to Wisconsin Rapids in 1956 where he was employed at Consolidated Papers for 36 years, retiring in 1991. He was the proud father of 3 children; Sandy, Randy, and Mike. Roger started Buttke Saw Service in 1969, and enjoyed the many friends he made over the years through this hobby business. He was an avid motorcycle rider, owning several Yamaha and Harley Davidson cycles over the years, and enjoying dozens of long rides throughout the Midwest in his retirement. Roger was a collector of antique John Deere Tractors, and frequented many tractor shows. He also loved Jean's home baked goods, afternoon coffee with brandy, cutting fire wood, camping in the many state and county parks in Wisconsin, and visiting with his children and grandchildren. He was preceeded in death by his daughter, Sandy Adamski; his mother and father, and his sister Rita Olson. Roger is survived by his wife of 56 years, Jean; son Randy Buttke (Anne) of Green Bay; son Mike Buttke (Cindy) of Wisconsin Rapids; son-in-law Jim Adamski of Plover; and grandchildren, Chelsie Adamski, Aaron Adamski, and Brianna Buttke. He is also survived by a brother, Clay (Carol) Buttke, a sister, Karen (Laverne) Danielson, brother-in-law, Leonard Olson and many nieces and nephews. Services will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, October 30 at St. Luke?s Lutheran Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Revered Tom Graves will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Monday, October 29 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home, Wisconsin Rapids, and resuming on Tuesday at the church from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Entombment will follow the funeral service at Forest Hill Mausoleum. A special thanks to the caring Nurses and Doctors at the UW Cancer Center Riverview, and all the family and friends that helped during Roger's illness. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Luke?s Lutheran Church or the UW Cancer Center Riverview.
