Obituary of George Matsumoto
George Namio Matsumoto, 83, Wisconsin Rapids, died Thursday, November 15, 2012.
Graveside services will be held at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific in Honolulu, Hawaii.
George was born in Lihue, Hawaii on May 28, 1929 to Kanichiro and Kura (Matsumoto) Matsumoto. He served his country in the Army from 1950 to 1953. After being honorably discharged in 1954 he attended the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He then met his first wife, Barbara Knuth, with whom he had his children. The young family eventually moved to Hawaii, his place of birth. The marriage ended in divorce. George married his current wife, Helen Gomes in 2006.
George enjoyed ballroom dancing, golfing and swimming. He also was a member of the Elks Club.
Survivors include: his wife, Helen Matsumoto; children: Michael (Neli) Matsumoto; Randall (Mary Anne) Matsumoto; Beth Jennings; grandchildren: Corinthia (Kevin), Randall, David, Brittany, Courtney, Colton; great-grandchildren: Brianna; and former wife, Barbara Matsumoto. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, brother, sisters, wife, Irene, and son, Kevin George.
