Obituary of Grant Olson
Grant Sylvester Olson, 81, Town of Plover, died Friday, December 7, 2012 at his home.
Services will be at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 12 at the Saratoga Moravian Church in the Town of Saratoga. Reverend Ole Anderson will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 11 at Herman-Taylor Funeral Home, and at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the time of services. Burial will be in Restlawn Memorial Park Cemetery with military honors rendered by VFW Post #2534.
Grant was born November 3, 1931 in Wonewoc to Grant and Vernice (Retzlaff) Olson. He served his country in the US Army in Korea from November 1952 to October 1954. When Grant returned home he began working for Consolidated Papers and continued with them in the Research and Development Department until his retirement.
Grant had a deep love for his family. Though he was never married, he was a second father to many of his nieces and nephews and never missed the opportunity to spend time with them. In his free time, Grant enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his garden, woodworking and tree farming.
Survivors include his siblings, Vernie (Jon) Warnke of Minneapolis, MN, and Shirley Sonnenberg, Irvin (Elaine) Olson, Avis (Leonard) Schroer and Helen Olson all of Wisconsin Rapids; sister-in-law, Lynda Olson of Pittsville; 15 nieces and nephews and 17 great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Keith Olson; sister, Betty ?Betsy? Hansen; and niece, Sue (Sonnenberg) Zemke.
